The fable of the frogs

The fable of the frogs

One day, the frogs decided to have a race. To make it particularly difficult, they set their goal as reaching the top of a tall tower.

On the day of the race, many other frogs gathered to watch.

Then finally, the race began.

Now, none of the spectating frogs really believed that even one of the participating frogs would actually reach the finish line. Instead of cheering on the runners, they shouted, "Oh dear, the poor things! They'll never make it!" or "That's impossible!" or "You'll never do it!"

And it really seemed as if the audience was going to be right, because little by little, more and more frogs gave up.

The audience continued to shout, "Oh dear, the poor things! They'll never make it!"

And sure enough, soon all the frogs gave up—all except one, who climbed the steep tower undeterred and was the only one to reach the finish line.

The spectator frogs were completely baffled and all wanted to know how he had done it.

One of the other frogs approached him to ask how he had managed to win the race.

And then they realized that this frog was deaf!
